Over the past year, UNICEF Campus AUP has raised around 1,300 euros for UNICEF. This is the most funds raised by a single branch of the UNICEF Campus in all of France.
To help raise funds, the club hosts many events throughout the year, such as the Infamous Vie fashion show held last fall, the Universal Children鈥檚 Day 鈥 an annual initiative that asks students and staff to reply to the question: 鈥淲hat does childhood mean to you?鈥 鈥 as well as a celebration for International Women鈥檚 Day, a FIFA competition and a mask sale for Halloween.
Last spring, UNICEF Campus AUP even organized a panel discussion and a movie screening of Wallah 鈥 je te jure, a documentary produced by the International Organization for Migration that followed the journeys of refugees traveling along West African migration routes to Italy. The event began with an emotional speech by AUP President, Dr Celeste M. Schenck, and continued with a discussion between several professors, students and a migrant from Central Africa.
鈥淚 really want this club to continue to be among the most active clubs in AUP and to inspire and inform the AUP community about children鈥檚 rights and how we can help them to fulfil their potential,鈥 says Tomislava Tomova, President of UNICEF Campus AUP.
The spring semester has arrived and UNICEF Campus AUP has already organized several initiatives. The first one was for Red Hand Day (International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers) in February where they drew attention to the fates of child soldiers and called for action against this practice. They also continued their annual rose sale, which has helped them raise nearly 200 euros toward their 2018 goal.
Tomova has many ideas for the club this semester. With funding from the Student Government Association (SGA), she wants to host a gala dinner, which she hopes would be the biggest event of the term. Tomova plans to invite members from UNICEF Campus organizations around France who can come to AUP and learn more about the initiatives that have been developed over the past four years.
Founded in Fall 2015 by F谩tima P茅rez聽and Viviana Alvarado, UNICEF Campus AUP began with just a handful of people. Today it has around 50 active members. Its vision is to create 鈥渁 world where the rights of every child are realized. In everything we do, we work to achieve a world where all children, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, have equal opportunities to survive and thrive.鈥
