The Institutional Effectiveness Steering Committee

The Institutional Effectiveness Steering Committee (IESC) is an ad-hoc committee that reports to the Provost and, by invitation, to the Faculty Senate. The committee鈥檚 mission is to define and guide the institutional effectiveness process at AUP. In particular the IESC accomplishes its mission by:

  1. assisting AUP鈥檚 faculty and staff in:
    1. better understanding the institutional effectiveness processes, structure, and goals;
    2. compiling annual reports (e.g., faculty activity reports, departmental reports, administrative unit reports)
  2. ensuring that assessment of learning outcomes is:
    1. meaningful in that it provides authentic measures of students鈥 achievement of curricular learning outcomes
    2. 听useful in that is leads to implemented actions in support of pedagogical development
  3. ensuring that assessment of unit objectives is:
    1. 听meaningful in that it provides objective measures of achievement of strategic objective
    2. useful in that is leads to implemented actions in support of continuous improvement
  4. ensuring that assessment is appropriately aligned with 国产AV鈥檚 mission, the pillars and core initiatives of its 2020-2023 strategic plan, and curricular core capabilities as documented in the听;
  5. envisioning and proposing appropriate changes to the Institutional Effectiveness process to the Provost and President including:
    1. changes to the assessment and calendar
    2. changes to the roles and responsibilities of assessment
    3. changes to the use and relevance of assessment results
    4. changes in assessment metrics for curricular activities
    5. changes in assessment metrics for administrative activities
  6. reviewing assessment documents at the end of each academic year and making recommendations to the President, Provost, and Leadership Team for implementation of actions in response to Institution-wide evidence collected.
  7. Drafting the annual Institutional Effectiveness Report
  8. Assisting the Global Liberal Arts Core Curriculum Committee (GLACC) in drafting their assessment report (GLACC Brief).

The Institutional Effectiveness Steering Committee is composed of 6 members: The Dean for Institutional Research, Assessment, and Effectiveness, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, two further members appointed by the Provost from the faculty and two further members appointed by the Provost from the staff. The Dean for Institutional Research, Assessment, and Effectiveness serves as Chair of the Committee.
