On-campus counseling is designed to offer guidance towards finding the support needed to achieve a student鈥檚 academic and personal goals. Guidance counselors speak to students about resources available at AUP, how to cope with difficult academic matters, getting organized, practical time management strategies, daily life issues that can affect their time at AUP as well as many other concerns. In cases where therapy support, testing, and/or psychiatric services are needed, students are referred to an off-campus resource.

OFF-CAMPUS COUNSELING

AUP works in partnership with off-campus therapists who provide weekly sessions to AUP students in the Fall and Spring semesters. The off-campus therapists have their private practices independent from AUP, yet work in conjunction with the Student Development Office听to promote and support student health and wellbeing.

These consultations are financially covered by AUP and can be scheduled via the Student Guidance Counselors听or听by听.听It is not necessary to share the reason(s) of the visit when scheduling an appointment, unless the student chooses to.

The approach of these sessions is based on a brief therapy and assessment model during a first, 40-45 minute visit. After this, the therapist proposes a plan that may include scheduling a return visit, a referral to another therapist, or, if necessary, to a psychiatrist, general practitioner, or other support services in Paris. In the event of a referral,听AUP health insurance reimburses up to 90 euros for psychiatrists and psychologists and听up to 15 therapy sessions per semester.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Both on-campus and off-campus consultations are strictly confidential and only in particular circumstances, and in accordance with French law, will confidentiality need to be breached. Click here for more information on our听Counseling Program鈥檚 confidentiality procedures and policies.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Session times that a student schedules are specifically reserved for that student. Given the limited number of spots available, and out of respect for the counselor and the AUP counseling program, students are requested to provide at least 24 hours鈥 notice should they need to cancel or reschedule a session. Missing sessions with an off-campus counselor may result in a fee being charged or a student being barred from using the counseling program.
